Provide at least one page of text under each subtitle that answers the option you selected. The paper should not be a total of more than three pages, excluding the title page and references area. In italics, the first sentence next to each subtitle should be the question you are answering. (If one of your topics is the last option on human evolution, the paper may be a little longer than three pages, but the grade weight is the same as all of the others). Submit the paper using Microsoft Word. Each paragraph should be four to six sentences. Use tab to indent the first line of each paragraph one-half inch (0.5″). For this type of academic paper, aim to avoid contractions (e.g., don’t, won’t, etc.). Font: All text should be black, 12-point, and Times New Roman. Margins: All margins should be at one inch (top, bottom, left, right). Spacing: Double-space the text. The “paragraph spacing”—i.e., the space between each paragraph—should be a normal double-space. It should not include an extra space. The setting should be zero. No hyperlinks, diagrams, or pictures should be within the written text. Hyperlinks are acceptable in the references area. Give practical, actual, historical, and specific examples to illustrate your points. Quotations more than forty words long should be “blocked” (all text indented one-half inch) and double-spaced. One outside source is required for each option you selected. An outside source means a book, essay, or video by a scholar. Sources should be of a higher quality than online dictionaries and encyclopedias. You may use our textbooks, the Bible, the lectures, and class resources within your paper (and are encouraged to do so), but they are not considered outside sources; that is, you should “go beyond” the required reading. This paper tests a student’s skill to find and present the views of top scholars. Accordingly, phrases such as “I think” and “my view” should not appear in this paper because you are voicing the views of other scholars, rather than sharing your own feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Try to reword (paraphrase) their main ideas into your own words so that the paper sounds like you. When you use three or more words in a row from a source directly, insert quotation marks around the words and then cite the scholar. When you paraphrase the idea into your own words, cite the scholar for the idea even if you do not quote directly. This gives credit to those who taught you. Give credit and cite all sources. Citations should occur within the text itself as well as sources being listed at the end in a Works Cited area. The in-text citations should be in this format: (Last Name Page). For example: “‘God loves you’—isn’t that the most well-worn of clichés? … No. Exactly the opposite. It is not familiar. It is shattering. It changes everything” (Kreeft 11). For sources with two authors, use this format: (Kreeft and Tacelli 11). For sources with three or more authors, use this format: (Kreeft, Tacelli, and Lewis 11). At the very end of the paper, and on a separate page, create a Works Cited section where the sources are listed with complete information (author, title, date, publisher, city, etc.) and placed in alphabetical order.
