What is the major point (or points) of the book? Most authors emphasize one or two major points. In Why Nations Fail, for example, the authors, Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson take nearly 500 pages of text to make one essential point: Prosperous nations are characterized by free market inclusive institutions, whereas impoverished nations are characterized by extractive institutions controlled by autocratic regimes. Of course, such a broad statement must be explained and substantiated, something Acemoglu and Robinson do thoroughly. 2. What lessons did you learn from the book that will help you manage your career? Be as specific as possible and avoid general statements such as “This book will help me be a better manager.” The more relevant question is: How will this book help me to become a better manager?
