Inspection of Steel Bridge under Corrosion

Paper details: I am doing a group a project. The topic is “Inspection of Steel Bridge under Corrosion”. Two advanced techniques used for corrosion inspection will be discussed in detail in this project, which are “Combined vision and thermographic images” and “Computer-vision based UAV”. But I am not responsible for describing those two advanced techniques in detail. I am only responsible for “Comparison between Simple Techniques and Those Two Advanced Techniques”. Specifically, I need to introduce simple techniques of any kind, and then compare them with the advanced ones mentioned above. The main point is I have to conclude that the advanced techniques are better than the simple ones after the comparison. The first simple technique I propose is “Visual Inspection”. Some paper says that “if visual inspection indicates that corrosion is growing or there is new corrosion present, inspectors may want to do a further review of the discontinuous areas with various kinds of non-destructive testing (NDT) tools to quantify the amount of corrosion that is present”. The two types of simple NDT methods I prefer are “Ultrasonic Testing” and “Magnetic Particle Testing”. For the simple techniques, I suggest to talk about (1) What are they; (2) How are they applied to inspection and (3) Advantages. Then I will switch to talk about the “Drawbacks of the simple techniques” and the “Advantages of the two advanced techniques” to explain why the advanced ones are better. This comparison part should account for AT LEAST TWO-THIRD of my task. Brief discussion on the above-mentioned TWO OR THREE SIMPLE TECHNIQUES is good enough, which should not exceed one-third of my task. I think the comparison should be focused on technical issue like accuracy, efficiency, conveniences, cost, etc. Remember, the comparison should favor the two advanced techniques, very detail description is unnecessary because this is the task of my group members. I have to do 3 to 3.5 mins long presentation. I think 410 to 450 words of presentation scripts should be fine for me. Also, I have to write 3 to 4 pages long report with double-spacing and font size 12. I think showing more graphic is preferable, like showing the photographs of NDT tools. No requirements on number of sources used, number of power-point slides, and what items should be compared, but the items should be somewhat technicaqwal and easy to understand.
